SCIC’s Chairman of Board of Directors had a meeting with Embassy of the State of Qatar in Vietnam

In the morning of 17^th August 2023, at SCIC’s headquarters, SCIC’s Chairman of the Board of Directors welcomed and had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to Vietnam – H.E. Mr. Khalid Ali Abdullah Abel.

Attending the meeting with the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Vietnam, on SCIC’s side, there were Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh – Chairman of SCIC’s Board of Directors, Mr. Le Thanh Tuan – Deputy General Director, and other cadres of function departments of SCIC.

The overview of the meeting

Discussing with the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Vietnam, SCIC’s Chairman – Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh introduced SCIC and shared some information about SCIC’s business and operation performance recently. Regarding the bilateral cooperation status of SCIC and Qatar partners, including Qatar Investment Authority – QIA and Qatar Holdings, SCIC’s Chairman - Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh updated the State of Qatar’s Ambassador on the result of SCIC’s business trip to the State of Qatar in March 2023 as well as activities that SCIC conducted in order to accelerate bilateral cooperation relation such as: SCIC shared with QIA and some Qatari enterprises investment cooperation opportunities in Vietnam via acquiring shares of enterprises in the divestment list of SCIC; investing capital into some big-scaled projects in sectors of infrastructures, harbors of Vietnam; considering possibilities in establishing joint venture…

In order to promote a cooperation relationship between SCIC and Qatari partners in the upcoming time, SCIC’s Chairman – Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh hopes that the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Vietnam and the Ambassador continue to support SCIC in connecting more efficiently with Qatari investors in order to discuss details in investment cooperation suggestions, especially learning about investment preferences, method of approaching as well as investment methods and sectors that Qatari investors are interested in. Concurrently, in order to prepare for the high-level business trip of the Governments of the two nations in the upcoming time, Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh also suggested Qatar partners consider some suggestions including QIA researching opportunities at SCIC’s divestment list; extending the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU); referring possibility in establishing joint ventures between SCIC and QIA…SCIC’s Chairman - Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh also affirmed that SCIC is willing to connect Qatari investors to potential big-scaled Vietnamese enterprises in projects where both parties share common interests.

Having a discussion at the meeting, Mr. Khalid Ali Abdullah Abel appreciated the warm welcome, the information that SCIC shared, and SCIC’s willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation between SCIC and Qatar. The Ambassador of the State of Qatar in Vietnam stated that SCIC is a pioneering enterprise that he had an official meeting in the role as Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Vietnam and confirmed that with his experiences, the Ambassador is willing to continue supporting SCIC as well as Qatari enterprise community in discovering and exploring potential investment cooperation opportunities in the upcoming time.
